ipod controversy

Grace has a new favorite song:
Its on my favorite peppy-song playlist and she’s picked up that catchy tune. Husband is a bit conflicted about what the girls are listening to. I don’t think its a big deal. They also sing along with everything from the Beatles to U2 to Coldplay to Ariel to Sheryl Crow to Elmo. (I do always buy the “clean” version on i-tunes so that they don’t hear any REALLY objectionable words.)
Its not like they’re singing gangsta rap with Snoop Dogg about sippin on gin and juice. (”with my mind on my money and my money on my mind…”)
I don’t know. Is this a big deal? Should I be more concerned about this than I am?

It’s probably not that big of a deal. But, if she was singing the real words than you could be concerned.

I wouldn’t think so. In our house, the song of choice at the moment is the theme song from COPS…bad boy, bad boy, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you.
This doesn’t really bother me, except when another child gets in trouble and daughter tells them the cops are coming for them!

I don’t think its a problem. You know what she’s singing and its nothing objectionable.

i think that the really funny thing about this little video is that little colin is wailing in the background looking for his mom who is just loving the dancer in little gracie… anyhow, in our home, there are no bad words… just bad choice of words.

i think it’s hilarious. Listen, with all of the garbage she’ll hear in her life a little “Let’s get it started…” ain’t gonna kill her. Just your husband

you know, our Genny loves this song. Also the PUMP IT song from BEP. We don’t listen to secular radio. When the radio is on, it’s The Effect or Air1. That being said, we have a VERY diverse listening library. both my husband and I LOVE music and want Genny to hear all sorts and make up her own opinions…

One question: Was Colin screaming because Gracie was singing or was Gracie singing and spinning to drown out the screams of Colin?
Music. Boy..that’s a touchy one, isn’t it? In our home we only listen to Christian music. NOT Sandy Patti- Christian- music (although I do love her as a person), but Alternative Christian….Skillet, Relient K, Stellar Kart, Flyleaf (please remember…I have teens:). However, there is a lot of good secular music, too. I love Natasha Bedingfield’s (think I massacred her name) song ‘Unwritten’. I don’t allow any lyrically inappropriate music in our home. I can’t stop what they listen to outside of our house, but I can monitor what comes into our home. Even if a song is ‘naughty’ but has a ‘clean’ version…I don’t allow it. Please know I am not condemning you. I am just giving you my opinion. I just don’t like giving any attention or money to bands who make their living off of selling sex, drugs, foul language, alcohol, etc to our kids.
OK…now that I have written a blog as a comment….
You’re such a good mommy. I am sure you use good-mommy-judgement when deciding what goes into those little ears
Love and Blessings…

I’m coming over from Folding Laundry’s blogroll (just so you know I’m not some crazy pediphile looking for little girl’s singing the Black-Eyed Peas). This reminded me that I really need to download the radio version of Gold Digger before ever letting my kids come within 1000 ft of my iPod.

Dylan is quick at picking up tunes and right now I’m struggling with the songs on Guitar Hero. His latest favorite is “Talk Dirty To Me”. Yeah, we had a nice talk about what we sing in our house and what we DON’T sing out of it!
